Poetry Vocabulary 3 (Melton)

mood the dominate feeling of a poem
tone the poet's attitude about his/her work
alliteration the repetition of the beginning sound in a word
consonance the repetition of a consonant sound
assonance the repetition of vowel sounds within a line of poetry
onomatopoeia the use of words that imitate sounds
repetition repeating words or lines in a poem to emphasize a point, message, theme or mood
free verse poetry written without a set rhythm or rhythm scheme
narrative poem it tells a story
