THE REGIONS BELOW ABSORB 1300CM-1 CALLED... E.G. THE FINGERPRINT REGION LIST SHOWS A COMPLEX SERIES OF PEAKS AND DEPENDS ON THE EXACT COMPOUND BEING ANALYSED.
JUST AS FINGERPRINTS CAN BE MATCHED BY COMPUTER TO GIVE UNIQUE IDENTIFY SO... COMPUTER ANALYSIS OF FINGERPRINT REGION CAN BE USED TO IDENTIFY A PURE UNKNOWN COMPOUND.
THE INFRARED SPECTRUM FOR PRONA-2-OL... THE BROAD PEAK AT 3330CM-1 ID DUE TO HYDROGEN BONDED O-H.
THE PEAK AT 2970 SM-1 IS DUE TO THE C-H BOND. THE PEAK AT 1389CM-1 IS DUE TO THE C-C BOND.
THE INFRARED SPECTRUM FOR METHYBENZENE AT 300CM-1 , 2900CM-1 AND 1500CM—1 ... . ANSWER THE PEAK AT 300CM-1 IS DUE TO THE STRETCHING OF THE AROMATIC C-H BOND. THE PEAK AT 2900CM-1 IS DUE TO THE STRETCHING OF THE C-H BOND IN THE CH3 GROUP. THE PEAK AT 1500CM-1 IS DUE TO THE AROMATIC C=C BOND.
INFRARED SPECTRUM FOR ETHANOIC ACID... THE PEAKS AT 300OSM-1 IS DUE TO THE O=H BOND IN THE CARBOXYLIC ACID GROUP. THE PEAK AT THE 1700CM-1 IS DUE TO THE C=O BOND IN THE CARBOXYLIC ACID GROUP . THE PEAK AT THE 1400CM-1 IS DUE TO THE C-C BOND.
THE PEAK AT 300CM-1 IS VERY BROAD BECAUSE.... OF THE EFFECTS OF INTERMOLECULAR HYDROGEN BONDING.
THE ABSORPTIONS BY THE C-H BONDS IS... OFTEN MASKED BY THE BROAD PEAK DUE TO THE O-H BOND AT SIMILAR FREQUENCIES.
INFRARED SPECTROSCOPY CAN BE USED TO SHOW ... WHERE A REACTION HAS TAKEN PACE.
(CON)THE SPECTRUM PRODUCT COMPARED ORIGINAL REACTANT. E.G. IF AN ALCOHOL IS BEING OXIDISED TO ALDEHYDE OR KETONE ,
(CON)THE PEAK 3200 BAD 3600CM-1 CAUSED BY .... THE STRETCHING OF THE O-H BOND SHOULD NOT BE FOUND IN THE SPECTRUM OF THE PRODUCT.
(CON)BUT A PEAK BETWEEN 1700 AND 1740CM-1 DUE TO... THE C=0 BOND SHOULD BE CLEARLY VISIBLE.
IF BUTAN-2-OL IS HEATED WITH AN OXIDISING GENT,
BUTANONE SHOULD BE PRODUCED BY ... COMPARING THE SPECTRA IN THE LIBRARY CAN BE SEEN IF THE OXIDATION TOOK PLACE.
