State two goals of the dental team that would simplify dental treatment in the dental office? The main goal of this concept is to deliver the best and most effective care to patients by increasing productivity and reducing fatigue and stress during the completion of dental procedures
In relation to the operator, should the assistant be positioned lower or higher when seated properly? Eye level four to six inches above the operator
How should the operator maintain the forearms when working on a patient? Height of chair maintained to keep operator's forearms parallel to the floor when bent at the elbow
Operating Zones Concept by which the face of a clock is used to position the dental team, equipment, and supplies
In terms of the clock concept, where is the static zone located for a right-handed operator? Right-handed: 12 o'clock to 2 o'clock Left-handed: 10 o'clock to 12 o'clock
Where are the instruments exchanged during a procedure? The transfer zone (right-handed: 4 o'clock to 7 o'clock;left handed: 5 o'clock to 8 o'clock) is the area where instruments and dental materials are exchanged between the dental assistant and the dentist
Besides the assistant, what may be located in the assistant's zone? The assistant's mobile cabinet or rear delivery countertop can also be positioned within this zone
Grasp The correct way for an instrument or handpiece to be held
Should the assistant use one hand or both hands to transfer instruments? The single-handed transfer technique applies to hand instruments, dental handpieces, and air-water syringes
Which hand is used primarily to transfer instruments to a right-handed dentist? For right-handed operator, the explorer is transferred with the left hand, and the mirror with the right hand
Expanded Function Specific intraoral function delegated to an auxiliary that requires advanced skill and training
Delegates To authorize or entrust another person to perform a specific skill or procedure
Direct Supervision Level of supervision in which the dentist is physically present when the auxiliary performs delegated functions
Indirect Supervision Overseeing an assistant's work by working in the immediate area
What is indirect vision? Indirect vision describes viewing an object through the use of a mirror
What is another term for a finger rest? A fulcrum us a "finger rest" that stabilizes the hand
