| Term | Definition |

| Access Copyright | non profit organization that collects revenues from copyright users to make sure authors and publishers receive compensation |
| Copyright | "Right to copy" Only the copyright owner is allowed to copy, reproduce and allow anyone else to do so |
| Intellectual Property | Legal rights that result from intellectual activity |
| Royalty | A sum of money paid to someone to use their work |
| Trade-Marks | Used to identify the goods or services of one person or organization |
| Public Domain | Works that belong to the public |
| Moral Rights | Personal to an author regardless of who owns copyright |
| Performing Rights | organization that collects royalties on behalf of performing artists |
| Plagiarism | using someone else's work as your own |
| Fair Dealing | limitation to the exclusive right granted by copyright law to the author |
| Patent | Right to exclude others from making using and selling ones invention in Canada |
| Blanket License | Covers all compensable copying. Used for classroom distribution of multiple copies |
