Hyperbole Extreme or gross exaggeration
Onomatopoeia Sound words or the formation of words that imitate what they stand for
Alliteration The repetition of the same sound or letter at the beginning of several words to make a special effect
Idiom An expression that doesn't make sense or means something different than the actual literal meaning of the words
Personification To give human like qualities to nonhuman objects
Simile The comparison of two seemingly unlike things using like, as, or resembles
Metaphor The comparison of two unlike things in which the one becomes the other....kind of like name calling. Do not use like, as, or resembles to compare
Idiom An expression that doesn't make sense or has a different meaning
