| element | a pure substance with only one type of atom |
| mixture | two or more different elements or compounds that are not chemically combined |
| compound | two or more elements chemically combined |
| homogeneous mixture | the elements in the mixture are evenly spread out |
| heterogeneous mixture | the elements in the mixture are not evenly spread out |
| pure substance | contains only one type of particle/can not physically break down a pure substance |
| solvent | What does the dissolving (there is more of this substance) |
| solution | A type of homogeneous mixture...the particles are evenly mixed |
| solute | The substance being dissolved (there is less of this substance in the solution) |
| soluble | will dissolve in solvent |
| insoluble | will not dissolve in solvent |
| 3 ways to make a solid dissolve faster | stirring, crush the solid, change in temperature |
| Concentrated | a lot of solute dissolved |
| Dilute | very little solute dissolved |
| Concentration | How much solute is dissolved in a certain amount of solvent. |
| Solubility | the maximum amount of solute that can dissolve inn a certain amount of solvent |
