Number Sense

QuestionAnswer
natural numbers all counting numbers
whole numbers natural numbers and 0
integers whole numbers and their opposites, and zero.
rational numbers any number that can be expressed as a fraction, plus repeating and terminating decimals.
irrational numbers numbers than cannot be expressed as a fraction.
real numbers all rational and irrational numbers
square found by multiplying a number by itself.
base the number being multiplied.
exponent the small number that tells how many times to mulitply the base.
radicand the number under the radical sign
inverse operations squaring a number and finding the square of a number. They undo each other.
perfect squares have square roots that are integers
