Prime factorization | factors of a number that are all prime |

Prime numbers | numbers that only have one and itself as factors |

Factors | Numbers that divide into a whole number with no remainder |

GCF | greatest common factor |

Prism | A 3D solid with two congruent bases |

Reflection | mirror image of a figure |

Rotation | move around (like in “four square” game) |

Translation | slide (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally) |

Line of Symmetry | a line that divides a figure into two mirror images |

Congruent | shapes having the same size and same shape |

Pyramid | A 3D solid with a polygon as its base and triangular faces that meet at the top |

Circumference | the distance around a circle |

Diameter | the distance across the middle of the circle |

Radius | Half the diameter |

Improper Fraction | a fraction with a numerator larger than the denominator. Simplify! |

Equation | A number sentence using an equal sign |

Acute angle | angle that is less than a right angle (less than 90 degrees) |

Obtuse angle | angle that is more than a right angle (greater than 90 degrees) |

Right angle | square angle (equal to 90 degrees) |

Perpendicular lines | lines that cross and form a right angle |

Parallel lines | lines that do not cross each other, they stay the same distance apart |

Whole numbers | 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5........ |

Average | The answer when numbers are added and then divided by the number of addends |

Sum | answer to addition |

Product | answer to multiplication |

Difference | answer to subtraction |

Quotient | answer to division |

Area | the number of square units needed to cover a surface. Length x Width = formula for a rectangle |

Polygon | any closed 2D figure with line segments as sides |

Solids | any 3D figure with a length, a width, and a height |

Composite Numbers | any number with more than 2 factors |

Numerator | the top number of a fraction |

Denominator | the bottom number of a fraction |

Equivalent | is equal to |

Tenths | first decimal place to the right |

Hundredths | second decimal place to the right |

Thousandths | third decimal place to the right |

Common factors | factors that are shared by two or more numbers |

Faces | a flat surface that serves as one side of a solid figure |

Vertices (vertex) | a point where edges meet |

Edges | line segments where 2 faces meet |

Ordered pairs | points (x,y) on a coordinate grid |

Perimeter | distance around a figure |

Volume | Length x Width x Height |

Probability | a way of describing how likely it is that a particular outcome will occur, written as a fraction |

Median | the middle value when all the data are listed from least to greatest |

Mode | the most frequent number in the data |

Range | Largest number minus smallest number in the data |
