WordDefinition
alter To change, or to make someone or something change; To make a piece of clothing longer or wider so it fits.
approximate An approximate number, amount, or time is a little more or a little less than the exact number or amount; To be similar to something, but not exactly the same.
author Someone who writes a book; The person who develops a plan or idea; To be the writer of a book, plan, etc.
aware If you are aware that something such as a problem or dangerous situation exists, you realize that it exists; If you are aware of something you notice it
challenge Something that tests strength, skill, or ability; The act of questioning whether something is right, fair, or legal; To invite someone to compete or fight against you.
compound An area that contains a group of buildings and is surrounded by a fence or wall; A substance containing atoms from two or more elements; To make a difficult situation worse by adding more problems; A noun or adjective made up of two or more words.
conflict A state of disagreement or argument between people, groups, countries, etc.; Something that you have to do at the same time that someone wants you to do something else; If two ideas, beliefs, opinions, etc., conflict, they cannot exist together.
contact Communication or meetings with a person, organization, country, etc.; The state of touching or being close to someone or something; A person you know who may be able to help you or give advice; To telephone or write someone.
debate Discussion or argument on a subject that people express different opinions about; A formal discussion on a subject in which each person has a chance to speak; To discuss a subject formally with someone when you are trying to make a decision.
draft A piece of writing, drawing, or a plan that is not yet in its finished form; A system in which people must join the military; To write a plan, report, etc., that will need to be changed before it is finished.
energy The physical and mental strength that makes you able to be active; Power that is used to produce heat and make machines work.
expand To become larger in size, number, or amount, or to make something become larger; If a company or business expands or if someone expands it, they open new stores, etc.
external Coming from outside, something such as an organization, group, or business; Relating to the outside of something; Relating to foreign countries; A part of a person's or animal's body that is on the outer surface, not inside it.
interval A period of time or distance between two events, activities, etc; The amount of difference in pitch between two musical notes.
margin The empty space at the side of a printed page; The difference in number of votes, points, etc., that exists between the winners and losers of an election or competition; The difference between what a business pays for something and what they sell it for.
medical Relating to the treatment of disease or injury.
mental Affecting the mind or happening in the mind; Informal - crazy
monitor The part of a computer that looks like a television and that shows information; A television that shows a picture of what is happening in a particular place; A peson who has been chosen to help in some way.
pursue To continue doing an activity or trying to achieve something over a long period of time; To chase or follow someone or something in order to catch or attack.
retain To keep something or continue to have something; To keep facts in your memory; To make sure that you will have someone's help or services by paying in advance.
stable Steady and not likely to more or change; Calm, reasonable, and not easy to upset; A stable substance tends to stay in the same chemical or atomic state; A building where horses, cattle, etc., are kept.
style A particular way of doing, designing, or producing something; A particular design or fashion for something such as clothes, hair, furniture, etc.; The particular way someone uses words to express ideas, write stories, etc.
substitute Something new or different that you use instead of something else you have used previously; Someone who does someone else's job for a limited period of time, especially on a sports team or at a school; To use something new or different.
target An object, person, or place that is deliberately chosen to be attacked; A result, such as a total, an amount, or a time in which you aim to achieve; Goal; To make something have an effect on a limited group or area; To aim at someone or something.
theme A main subject or idea in a piece of writing, speech, movie, etc.; A particular style; Music or song that is played at the beginning and end of a television show or radio program.
