BroadCasting Video Production Vocabulary

TermDefinition
Linear editing Analog or digital editing that uses tape-based systems. The selection of shots is nonrandom.
News production personnel People assigned exclusively to the production of news, documentaries, and special events.
Production The actual activities in which an event is recorded and/or televised.
Preproduction The preparation of all production details
Technical Production Personnel People who operate the production equipment.
demographics Audience research factors concerned with such data as age, gender, marital status, and income.
Target Audience The audience selected or desired to received a specific message.
Treatment A brief narrative description of a television program.
A/V Format Another name for the two-column AV (audio/video).
Classical Dramaturgy The technique of dramatic composition.
Event Order The way event details are sequenced.
Goal-Directed Information Program content intended to be learned by the viewer.
Partial Two-Column A/V Script Describes a show for which the dialogue is indicated but not completely written out.
Coding To change the quantized values into a binary code, represented by 0's and 1's. Also called encoding.
Binary A number system with the base 2.
Decoding The reconstruction of a video or an audio signal from a digital code.
Digital Usually means the binary system - the representation of data in the form of binary digits (on/off pulses).
RGB Stands for red, green, blue- the basics color
Refresh Rate The number of complete digital scanning cycles (frames) per second
Sync Generator Part of the camera chain; produces an electronic synchronization signal.
Sensor The CCD or CMOS imaging device in a video camera.
Hue One of the three basic color attributes; hue is the color itself-red, green yellow, and so on.
Saturation The color attributes that describes a colors richness or strength.
ENG/EFP Camcorder High -quality portable field production camera with the recording device built-up
Aperture Iris opening of a lens, usually measured in f-stops.
