Linear Systems
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Systems of equations | two or more equations with the same variables |
| consistent | has at least one solution |
| inconsistent | it has no solutions |
| independent | it has exactly one solution |
| dependent | it has an infinite number of solutions |
| substitution method | one equation is solved for one variable in terms of the other |
| elimination method | eliminate one of the variables by adding or subtracting the equations |
| constraints | the inequalities |
| feasible region | the intersection of the graph |
| bounded | when the graph of a system of constraints is a polygonal region |
| vertices | maximum or minimum value of a related function always occurs at one of the vertices |
| unbounded | system of inequalities forms a region that is open |
| linear programming | process of finding maximum or minimum values of a function for a region defined by inequalities |
| ordered triple | the solution of a system of equations in three variables x,y and z |
