Linear Functions

QuestionAnswer
Regression Equation the equation representing the relation between selected values of one variable
Residuals The vertical distance between a data point and the graph of a regression equation.
Best Fit Line In statistics, linear regression is any approach to modeling the relationship between a scalar variable y and one or more variables denoted X
Correlation Coefficient A number between −1 and +1 calculated so as to represent the linear dependence of two variables or sets of data.
Interpolate A method of constructing new data points within a range of a discrete set of known data points
Linear Function A first-degree polynomial function of one variable
Linear Regression The straight line that best describes the realtionship between two variables
Y-Intercept A point at which a graph intersects the y-axis.
Slope The ratio of the rise over the run of a line
Extrapolate To estimate values within a known range by assuming that the estimated value follows logically from the known values.
