Who was the Father of the periodic table? Dmitri Mendeleev
How is periodic table arranged? arranged by increasing order of atomic mass
What is atomic mass? The average mass of one atom of an element.
What is a row on the periodic table also called? Period
What is each column on the periodic table called? Group or family
What do the symbols identify? The symbols identify the elements
What is the atomic number? The number of protons in an atom's nucleus.
How are modern periodic tables arranged? Arranged according to atomic number
Atomic mass is... the average mass of an element's atoms
Covalent Bonds often form b/w two or more.... non-metals
Chemical Bonds formed when 2 atoms share electrons is... covalent bond
The molecule is non polar if it's... contains polar bonds that cancel out and contains only no polar bonds
What does each square of the periodic table contain? each square contains the element's atomic number, chemical symbols, name, and atomic mass
H20 molecules attract like bar magnets because... because the oxygen end is negative, and the hydrogen end is positive..
Why are molecular compounds poor conductors? No charge particles are available to move, and electricity does not flow.
Differences in the attractions between molecules lead to different properties in? Polar and nonpolar compounds.
Nonpolar compounds don't what in water? Dissolve well.
What is a double bond? A chemical bond formed when atoms share two pairs of electrons.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
