| 18 Months-2 Years | Vocabulary of 50 words, though pronunciation is unclear, asks for food by name, begins to combine words, begins to use pronouns, uses two-word phrases |
| 2-3 Years | knows some spatial concepts, vocabulary of 250-900 words, uses three word sentences, answers simple questions, broadens the use of pronouns, uses questions to ask for something, begins to use plurals |
| 3-4 Years | groups objects together, identifies colors, answers simple questions, strangers can often understand what the child is saying, repeats sentences, has fun with language, vocabulary of about 1,500 words |
| 5 Years | understands more than 2,000 words, understands time sequences, understands rhyming, describes objects, may use more than 8 words in a sentence, uses imagination to create stories |
