Changes of State

8th Grade Changes of State

The change in state from a solid to a liquid is called.. melting
In the most pure substances, melting occurs at a specific temperature called.. melting point
The change of state from liquid to solid is called.. frezzing
The change of state from a liquid to a gas is called.. vaporazation
When does vaporization take place? Vaporization takes place when the particles in a liquid gain enough energy to form a gas.
Each liquid boils only at a certain temperature, which is called its.. boiling point
Why is the boiling point of water lower in the mountains than it is at sea leavel? In places close to sea level the boiling point of water is 100 degrees celcuis. In the mountains, however air pressure is lower and so is the water's boiling point
When condensation occurs, does a gas lose or gain thermal energy? Condensation occurs when particles in a gas loses enough energy that they form a gas.
During... particles of a solid do not pass through the liqiud state as they form a gas. sublimation
Give an example of sublimation. Dry ice is the most common name for a solid carbon dioxide.
