QuestionAnswer
Extended Metaphor A metaphor that is extended or developed over a number of lines or with several examples
Iambic Pentamater A line of poetry that contains five iambic feet.
Allusion A reference to someone or something that is known from history, literature, religion, politics, sports, science, or some other branch of culture
Metaphor A figure of speech that makes a comparison between two unlike things without the use of such specific words of comparison as like, as,than, or resembles
Simile A figure of speech that makes and explicit comparison between two unlike things, using a word such as, like, as, than, or resembles
Dramatic Irony Often used on stage, this is when a character in the play or story thinks one thing is true but the audience or reader knows better
Aphorism A brief, cleverly worded statement that makes a wise observation about life
Tone The attitude a writer takes toward the situation of a work, the characters in it, or the audience
Plain Style A way of writing that stresses simplicity & clarity of expression

Rhetorical Question A question asked for an effect, not actually requiring an answer.
