| Objective tone | facts presented without bias |
| Synthesis of sources | combine ideas to create your opinion |
| Connotation | your own definition, metaphorical (ex. bright) |
| Denotation | dictionary definition |
| Falling action | what happens after climax |
| Climax | turning point of the story |
| Exposition | starting, gives you a background |
| Denouncement | (aka resolution) the ending of the story |
| Rising action | the part of the story that leads up to the climax |
| Inciting incident | an occurance that sets the story in motion |
