| Formal Diction | usually contains language that contains an elevated tone, free of slang/idioms/contractions, often contains sophisticated language and elegant word choice |
| Informal Diction | the language everybody uses, relaxed and conversational, often includes common and simple words/slang/jargon/contractions Example: "Whatcha do-in?" (Isabella) "I know what we're gonna do today." (Phineas) "I reckon cattle ain't for city folk." (Ferb) |

| Personification | a figurative language technique in which human characteristics are given to non-human things |
| Hyperbole | an extreme exaggeration that usually deals with time, measurement, size and degree |
