Science P1 Topic 6

GCSE edexcel core science physics: energy and the future

QuestionAnswer
What are the nine forms of energy? Elastic potential, gravitational potential, kintetic, nuclear, chemical, light, thermal, sound, electrical
What is the law of conservation of energy? That energy can't be created or destroyed- it can only be transfered and transformed. The input energy always equals the output energy.
What is wasted energy? Wasted energy is the other form of energy that is transferred without it being wanted e.g. heat coming out of a light bulb
What is energy efficiency? The proportion of energy transferred to useful forms
What is the equation for energy efficiency? Efficiency = useful energy transferred by the device / total energy supplied to the device x 100%
What do sankey diagrams show and how? They show energy efficiency of an appliance by showing the total input energy and the useful and wasted output forms. The width of the arrow represent the amount of energy in joules.
When what is happening will a system stay at a constant temperature? When it is radiating the same amount of power as it is absorbing.
What will happen of we stop producing greenhouse gases? The earth will reach its new constant (but higher) temperature, because it will absorb more heat than before ( since greenhouse gases absorb heat), and will radiate more heat aswell.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
