| Internal Rhyme | occurs within a line of poetry |
| Metaphor | compares unlike things but does not use like or as |
| Meter | a regular pattern of stressed and unstressed syllables |
| Onomatopoeia | word (s) used to imitate or suggest the sound of what is described |
| Personification | give human characteristics to an animal, object, or idea |
| Rhyme | repetition of the same stressed vowel sound and any succeeding sounds in two or more words |
| Rhyme Scheme | pattern of end rhyme, may be designated by assigning a different letter of the alphabet to each new rhyme |
| Rhythm | the pattern of sound created by arrangement of stressed and unstressed syllables in a line |
| Simile | a figure of speech using like or as to compare two unlike things |
| Slant Rhyme | refers to words that almost rhyme but not quite |
