| Alliteration | repetition of 2 or more of the same consonant, letter, or sound |
| Enjambment | the running on of the thought from one line, couplet, or stanza to the next without a break |
| Sonnet | poem with 14 lines in iambic pentameter with rhymes arranged according to a scheme |
| Repetition | repeating the same word or sound 2 or more times |
| Assonance | rhyme where the same vowel sound is used with different consonants in the stressed syllables |
| Rhyme Scheme | pattern of rhyme used in a poem, marked by letters to symbolize rhymes |
| End-stopped Line | ending of a syntactic unit, usually followed by a pause in speaking and a punctuation mark in writing |
| Consonance | repetition of consonants or consonant patterns as a rhyming device |
