Vocabulary Lesson 01 - Words About Language

QuestionAnswer
Annotation A critical or explanatory note.
Appellation A name, title, or designation.
Eponym A person whose name is, or is thought to be, the source of the name of something.
Linguistics The study of the nature, structure, and variation of language.
Malapropism Ridiculous misuse of a word, especially confusing it with one of similar sound.
Neologism A new word, expression, or usage.
Parlance A particular manner of speaking.
Patois A regional dialect, especially a nonstandard one that has no written tradition.
Polyglot Using several languages.
Vulgar Of or related to the language of the common people. Crude; indecent.
