Vands ionprodukt H30+
pOH-værdi Den værdi, man regner ud, for at kunne finde pH-værdien af en ikke-stærk base, ved at finde [OH-]-værdien ved hjælp af denne formel: pOH=-log[OH-].
Korresponderende syre-basepar De par, som kan blive til hinanden om og om og om igen. Fx CH3COOH, som er en syre, afgiver et H+-ion og bliver til sin korresponderende base; CH3COO-, som vil modtage et H+-ion og blive til sin korresponderende syre; CH3COOH.
Autohydronolyse Fx vands autohydronolyse: H20 + H20 (2 modsatrettede reaktionspile) OH- + H30+. Altså vand reagere med sig selv og bliver til både en syre og en base.
Styrkekonstant Syrens eller basens styrke i vand.
Puffersystem Består af et korresponderende syre-basepar. Et kendetegn for en pufferopløsning, er at det er svært at ændre på pH-værdien.
Amfolyt En amfolyt, er et stof, som kan både reagere med en basisk opløsning og sur opløsning. Vand (eller H20) er en amfolyt og kan reagere som en syre i en basisk opløsning og med en base i en sur opløsning.
pH-værdi Måles i opløsninger, for at se om de er basisk, sur eller neutral. Fra 1 til 7 er det en sur opløsning. 7 er en neutral opløsning. og højere end 7 er det en basisk opløsning.
