Adelina's Whales

My Story

What is a lagoon? A body of shallow water.
What is a biologist? A scientist that studies living things.
According to scientists, why did the mother whales come to Laguna San Ignacio? They came to have their babies.
Why do the whales leave Alaska and Russia in the winter? The water is too cold.
Adelina said that Laguna San Ignacio is the place where two worlds join together. What did she mean by that? She said this because Adelina's world and the whales lives joined together while the whales were in Laguna San Ignacio.
What do you think was the author's purpose for writing this story? To describe a place where gray whales visit in the winter.
How were the people who live in La Laguna like the people who visited the village? They all like to see and study the whales.
What makes a sentence an OPINION? Find an opinion in the story. "Maybe the whales told each other it was safe to visit Laguna San Ignacio.
What makes a statement a FACT? Find a fact in the selection and write it below. "The whale's wide, flat take is called a fluke."
Where is Laguna San Ignacio? It is on the coast of Baja, California.
How do you know that Adelina had a good understanding of nature? She could tell time by the way that the light reflected on the water.
What was one of the first things that happened? Adelina's grandfather was visited by a friendly whale.
Give one main idea from the story. Many people visit Laguna San Ignacio to see the gray whales.
There is a lot to learn about whales. Which detail in the story supports that this is true? Adelina asked many questions about whales.
How can you tell that the whales were important to Adelina? In the story, Adelina said that the whales will always be a part of her life.
