What was the main difference between Hessian soldiers and Patriots? The main difference is the Patriots were fighting for freedom and Hessians were fighting for money.
How did the location of the war help the Americans? The colonist were familiar with the land. The British had to have ships from England bring them supplies, while the colonists could grow and make their own supplies.
Who were the loyalists? The Loyalists were people who opposed the war for independence. They are sometimes called Tories. About 1/5 to 1/3 of the colonist were Loyalists. Their loyalty sometimes depended on who was winning battles.

Why were enslaved African Americans not allowed to enlist in the war? Southern colonies asked the Continental Congress not to enlist African Americans because many white people were afraid to allow them to have guns and that slaves might revolt.
