7C pure substances

Pure substances and mixtures

QuestionAnswer
whats a pure substances? Matter that contains only one kind of particle.
Whats a mixture? Matter that contains two or more pure substaces mixed together.
Examples of pure substance? Aluminum foil, table salt and distilled water.
Examples of mixture? Steel, batteries, juice, air and concrete.
What is the difference between a mechanical mixture and a solution? A mechanical mixture is a mixture with differentparts that you can see. A solution is a mixture that looks like a single pure substance; a uniform mixture of two or more pure substances.
what are solutions and what are they made of? A solution is a mix of two or more kinds of particles. In a solution, one kind of particle dissolves into the other.
what does dissolve mean? To mix one type of matter into another type of matter to form a solution.
whats a solute? The smaller part of a solution; the part of a solution that dissolves into a solvent.
Whats a solvent? The larger part of a solution;the part of a solution into whichthe solutes dissolve.
what does dissoving mean? Mixing completeley with a solvent to form a ssolution.
What is the universal solvent and why is it called that? It dissolves more substances than any other solvent.
What does soluble mean? A solute that is able to dissolve into a certain solvent is called a soluble. when solute particles are attracted to the solvent particles, the solute is soluble
Whats insoluble? A solute that is not able to dissolve into a certain solvent is insoluble. When solute particles are not attracted to the solvent particles, the solute is insoluble.
What is concentration and solubility? Concentration is the amount of solute present in an amount of solution. Solubility is a measure of how much solute can dissolve in a certain solvent to form a saturated solution at a particular temperature and volume.
whats a concentrated solution? A concentrated solution is a solution with a large number of solute particles in a given volume of solution.
Whats a dilute solution? A dilute solution is a solution with a small number of solute particles in a given volume of solution.
How to calculate concentration? Mass of solute(g)/100mL of solution.
How to calculate solubility? Maximum solute dissolved(g)/100mL of solvent at a certain temperature.
Whats a saturated solution? A solution in which no more solute can dissolve.
whats a unsaturated solution? A solution in which more solute can be dissolved.
What are the five main points of the particle theory? 1.All matter is made up of tiny particles 2.particles have empty spaces between them. 3.Even though you cannot see them, particles are moving randomly 4.Particles move faster and spread farther apart when they are heated 5.Particles attract eachother.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
