Reaction Kinetics

QuestionAnswer
Homogeneous Reaction Is a reaction in which all the reactants are in the same phase
Heterogeneous Reaction IS a reaction in which the reactants are present in different phases
Phase
Catalyst Is a chemical which can be added to a reaction to increase the rate of the reaction
Inhibitor Is a chemical which reduces a reaction rate by combining with a catalyst or one of the reactants in such a way as to prevent the reaction from occurring
Collision Theory States that molecules act as small, hard spheres which bounce off each other and transfer energy among themselves during their collision
Potential Energy Is the energy existing as a result of an object's position in space
Kinetic Energy Is the energy in which a system possesses because of movement within the system
Bond Energy Is the amount of energy required to break a bond between two atoms
Delta H The change in enthalpy during the course of the reaction
Endothermic Products have more energy than the reactants
Exothermic Products have less energy than the reactants
Activated Complex Is the top of the EA and is very unstable
Activation Energy Is the minimum potential energy required to change the reactants into the activated complex
Rate-Determining Step Is the slowest step in all of the reactions

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
