| order of operation | the rule that tell which operation to perform first when more than one operation is used |
| power | a number that can be expressed using an exponent. the power 3 to the 2nd power is read three to the third power or three squared |
| prime factorization | a composite number expressed as a product of prime numbers. |
| prime number | a whole number that has exactly two unique factors, 1 and the number itself. |
| solution | the value of a variable that makes an equation true. the solution of 12=x+7 is 5 |
| solve | to replace a variable with a value that results in a true sentence. |
| squared | a number multiplied by itself. |
| variable | a symbol, usually a letter, used to represent a number. |
