| personification | to give human qualities to an animal or object. |
| tone | the author's attitude towards the subject of the story or characters. |
| setting | where a story takes place. |
| stanza | a poem's version of a paragraph |
| fiction | a literary work based on the imagination and not necessarily on fact |
| nonfiction | writing that presents and explains ideas or that tells about real people, places, objects or events. |
| theme | the author's insight into life, a viewpoint . |
| sunken gardens | where Robert took his date. He was deeply disappointed. |
