QuestionAnswer
Setting the time and place where the action of the story took place
Characterization The way the autor crreates life-like characters in fiction We come to know characters by what they say, do, and think and by what others say and think of them
Theme the underlined message the author wishes to convey it may be either implicit(implied)or explicit(directly stated)
Foreshadowing when the author gives hints to the outcome of the story
Inference To draw one's own conclusion
Point of View the relationship of the narrarator to the story;First person(I), 3rd person limited, 3rd person omniscent(all knowing)
Irony an unexpected twist in the out come of events
Symbolism a concrete object represents an abstract idea
Antagonist the primary character who's wants and needs conflict with those of the protagonist
Protagonist the primary character whos wants and needs move the story along
Plot the pattern of events that present and resolve a story's conflict
Conflict an obsticle that prevents the protaganist from achieving his or her goal Man vs. Man, Man vs. Self, Man vs. Nature
