Science chemisty vocab words

QuestionAnswer
Law of Conservation of Mass A law which states that mass is neither created nor destroyed in any ordinary chemical reaction.
Physical Change Change that affect the size, shape, state of matter, or color of a substance but does not affect its composition.
Chemical Change Change that affect the composition of the substance.
Element A substance consisting of atoms which all have the same number of protons
Chemical Formula A way of expressing information about the atoms that constitute a particular chemical compound
Element(Diatomic) Molecule Two same type of atoms into molecule
Compound Molecule Bunch of atoms added into molecule
Chemical Equation symbolic representation of a chemical reaction where the reactant entities are given on the left hand side and the product entities on the right hand side
Chemical Reaction a process that leads to the transformation of one set of chemical substances to another.
Reactants Left side of chemical equation
Products Right side of chemical equation
Coefficient the number that goes on the left of molecule to tell number of molecule
Subscript number that goes on the right of each elements to tell the number of each element
Ionic Compound a chemical compound in which ions are held together in a lattice structure by ionic bonds.
Covalent Compound a chemical compound that is characterized by the sharing of pairs of electrons between atoms.
Metallic Compound a compound that contains one or more metal elements.
Synthesis the forming or building of a more complex substance or compound from elements or simpler compounds.
Decomposition the separation of a chemical compound into elements or simpler compounds.
Single Replacement Occurrence of two different cations switch places to combine with the same anion
Double Replacement a chemical reaction where two reactant ionic compounds exchange ions to form two new product compounds with the same ions.
