Question | Answer |
---|---|
Law of conservation of mass | Nothing is ever created or destroyed, only changed. |
Physical change | A usually reversible change in the physical properties of a substance, as size or shape. |
Chemical Change | A usually irreversible chemical reaction involving the rearrangement of the atoms of one or more substances and a change in their chemical properties or composition, resulting in the formation of at least one new substance. |
Element | One of a class of substances that cannot be separated into simpler substances. The simplest form of matter. |
Chemical formula | A representation of a substance using symbols for its constituent elements. |
Element (diatomic) molecule | A molecule consisting of 2 atoms either the same or different elements. |
Compound Molecule | a compound made of 2 or more nonmetal elements. |
Chemical equation | A symbolic representation of what happens when chemicals come in contact with one another. A balanced chemical equation shows how many of what molecules react, how many of what molecules result, and sometimes the state of the substances |
Chemical reaction | A process in which one or more substances reactants are chemically changed into one or more new substances products. |
reactants (in a chemical equation) | A substance participating in a chemical reaction, especially a directly reacting substance present at the initiation of the reaction. |
Products (in a chemical equation) | A product is a substance that is formed as the result of a chemical reaction. |
coeffiecent (in a chemical equation) | Coefficient is the number of molecules of reactants or products. |
subscript (in a chemical equation) | It is the number of atoms in the preceding element. |
