Quadratic Function | |
Quadratic Function | a function that can be described by an equation of the form f(x) =ax^2 + bx + c, where a ≠ 0 |
Maximum | the highest point on a graph |
Quadratic Formula | the formula x = [-b ± √(b^2 - 4ac)]/2a, used to compute the roots of a quadratic equation |
Zero | the x-value that makes the function equal to 0 |
Axis of Symmetry | a line that divides an object into half and creates mirror images of each other |
Minimum | the lowest point on a graph |
Discriminant | an algebraic expression related to the coefficients of a polynomial equation whose value gives information about the roots of the polynomial calculated using b^2 - 4ac |
Solution | an answer that can be substituted for a variable that makes the equation true |
Vertex | the highest or lowest point on a parabola |
X-Intercept | the x-intercept of a line is the point at which the line crosses the x-axis |
Completing the Square | the process of converting a quadratic equation into a perfect square trinomial by adding or subtracting terms on both sides |
Roots | the solutions of a quadratic equation |
