definitions

QuestionAnswer
Idiom? is an expression whose meaning has little, often nothing,to do with the literal meaning of the words
Simile? is a comparison that shows how two things that are not alike in most ways are similar in one important way
Hyperbole? is a figure of speech which is an exaggeration. it is not to be taken literally.
Alliteration? repetition of the initial (or beginning)sounds of a word.
Metaphor? an implied comparison between two usually unrelated things indicating a likeness or analogy between both things
Personification? giving human characteristics to inanimate objects
Onomatopoeia? the use of words that sound exactly like what it means
Oxymoron? a figure of speech that combines two opposing or contradictory ideas and makes a new word/idea
