Chapter one vocabulary

QuestionAnswer
Graph a point in a plane
x-axis Horizontal line on graph
y-axis vertical line on a graph
ordered pair A symbol the specifies the order in which two numbers occur.
Abscissa The first number in an ordered pair as indicated on a number-line graph, the horizontal coordinates on the graph.
ordinate the second number in an ordered pair;the vertical coordinate system on a graph.
coordinates numbers corresponding to points on a graph.
Cartesian Coordinate System A system of plotting the values on a graph. Named after Rene Descartes of France.
Quadrants One of the four regions in a cartesian Coordinate system.
Scale Scale on two axes for example you can put down every five units.
Rise and Run. is going from one point to another in a cartesian coordinate system.The run is the change in x and the rise is the change in Y.
slope intercept form. an equation of the form y=mx+b where m and b are constants is in slope intercept form. The constant m is the slop and b is y intercept.
