Term | Definition |
Sun | the largest star that the Earth and other planets move around. It gives the planets heat and light. |
Comet | is like an asteroid but comets display a trail of ice and gas when orbiting close enough to the sun. |
Asteroid | is a large rock sometimes miles wide that orbits the Sun. They sometimes crash into Earth and are called meteorites. |
Planet | A ____________________must orbit the sun. It must have enough gravity to maintain a spherical shape. |
Moon | the large solid object that circles the Earth and that shines at night by reflecting light from the sun. |

Axis | An line about which a rotating body turns. |
What causes day and night? | The Earth rotates on its axis from west to east which takes 1 day or 24 hours to fully rotate. At all times 1/2 of Earth is lit by the Sun and 1/2 of the Earth is in darkness. |
Revolution | to move around a single point in a circular motion. |
Tilt | To cause to slope as by raising one end; incline, lean, slope or slant. |
What causes the seasons? | The Earth's revolution and tilt cause the seasons. |
