declarative sentence | makes a statement and ends with a period |
imperative sentence | gives a command and ends with a period |
interrogative sentence | asks a question and ends with a question mark |
exclamatory sentence | shows excitement and ends with an exclamation mark |
noun | a word that is used to name a person, place, thing, or idea |
common noun | names any one of a group of persons, place, things, ideas |
proper noun | names a specific noun |
concrete nouns | a person place or thing that can be perceived by one or more of the senses |
abstract nouns | names a felling, and idea, a quality, or a characteristic |
collective nouns | a word that names a group |
pronoun | a word that is used in place of one or more nouns or pronouns |
personal pronouns | refers to the one speaking, the one spoken to, or the one spoken about |
reflexive pronouns | refers to the subject and functions as a complement or an object of a preposition ends in self or selves |
intensive pronouns | emphasises a noun or another pronoun and is not nessary in the sentence. ends in self or selves |
demonstrative pronouns | points out a person, place, thing, or idea ~ this, that, these, those |
interrogative pronouns | introduces a question ~what, which, who, whom, whose |
relative pronouns | connects a word or word group and does not introduce a question |
indefinite pronouns | refers to a person, place, thing, or idea that may or may may not be specifically named |
adjectives | a word used to modify a noun or a pronoun. describes what kind, which one, and how many |
articles | a, an, the |
verbs | a word used to express an action or state of being |
action verbs | a verb that expresses either a physical or mental activity |
linking verbs | connects the subject to a word or word group that identifies or describes the subject |
transitive verbs | a verb that expresses an action directed towards a noun |
intransitive verbs | express action without the action passing to a receiver |
adverb | a word that modifies a verb, adjective, or another adverb |

predicate nominatives | a word group that is in the predicate and that identifies the subject or refers to it |
predicate adjective | an adjective that is in the predicate and that describes the subject |
