| ELECTROSTATICS | the branch of physics that deals with stationary or resting electric charges |
| STATIC ELECTRICITY | another name for resting charges |
| ELECTRIFICATION (Positive & Negative) | when electrons are removed from or added to an atom |
| POSITIVE ELECTRIFICATION | insufficient amount of electrons |
| NEGATIVE ELECTRIFICATION | exessive amount of electrons |
| CONDUCTORS | allow a free flow of electrons EX: copper |
| SEMICONDUCTORS | intermediate in conducting ability |
| INSULATIORS | electrons do not flow freely EX: rubber, wood |
| GROUND | connected to wet earth by a conductor |
| FRICTION | the removal of electrons from one object by rubbing it with another of a different kind |
| CONTACT | when a body charged by friction touches an uncharged object |
| INDUCTION | when a charged body is brought near an uncharged body |
| ELECTROSCOPE | detects the presence and sign of an electric charge. It can be charged by either contact or induction. |
