Element | substance that cannot be broken down into simpler substances. |
Law of Conservation of Mass | The mass of the products of a chemical reaction must be the same as the mass of the reactants in that reaction. |
Physical Change | in a substance affect only physical properties, such as its size and shape, or whether it's a solid, liquid, or gas. |
Chemical Change | Produces new substances that have properties different from those of the original substance. |
Chemical Formula | represents the chemical names of substances in the equation |
Element (Diatomic) Molecule | Molecules of only one type of atom |
Compound Molecule | made of more than one type of atom. |
Chemical Equation | Shorthand (fastest) form for writing what reactants are used and what products are formed in a chemical reaction. |
Chemical Reaction | Process that produces chemical change, resulting in new substances that have properties different from those of the original substances. |
Reactants | Substance that exist before a chemical reaction begins. |
Products | substance that forms as a result of a chemical reaction. |
Coefficient | Tells the number of molecules. A blank means " one." |
Subscript | Tells the number of a certain type of atom in one molecule. |
