Science Vocab. Terms

Element substance that cannot be broken down into simpler substances.
Law of Conservation of Mass The mass of the products of a chemical reaction must be the same as the mass of the reactants in that reaction.
Physical Change in a substance affect only physical properties, such as its size and shape, or whether it's a solid, liquid, or gas.
Chemical Change Produces new substances that have properties different from those of the original substance.
Chemical Formula represents the chemical names of substances in the equation
Element (Diatomic) Molecule Molecules of only one type of atom
Compound Molecule made of more than one type of atom.
Chemical Equation Shorthand (fastest) form for writing what reactants are used and what products are formed in a chemical reaction.
Chemical Reaction Process that produces chemical change, resulting in new substances that have properties different from those of the original substances.
Reactants Substance that exist before a chemical reaction begins.
Products substance that forms as a result of a chemical reaction.
Coefficient Tells the number of molecules. A blank means " one."
Subscript Tells the number of a certain type of atom in one molecule.
