Pediatric Equilibrium/Protective Reactions
Question | Answer |
---|---|
PRONE Equilibrium | 5-6 months/Persists Prone on tilt board, tip slowly to one side. Spine curves to head and pelvis more in opposite direction as tilt Maintain center of gravity |
SITTING Equilibrium | 7-8 months/Persists Sitting on tilt board, tilt slowly to one side. Spine curves so head & pelvis in more opposite direction as tilt Maintain center of gravity |
FORWARD Protective | 6-9 months/Persists Vertical suspension supported around truck, quickly plunge UE forward and down towards surface. Reach towards surface with extended arms and WB on UE on surface Protects head and body from falling |
SIDEWARD Protective | 7 months/Persists Push child in sitting, sideways to cause loss of balance. Shoulder abduction with elbow extension to WB on arm Sitting balance, protect head/ body from falling |
BACKWARD Protective | 9-10 months/Persists Push child backward in sitting to cause posterior loss of balance Shoulder and elbow extension backward to catch themselves. Good sitting balance, protects head/ body |
Equilibrium reactions | patterns that help maintain balance when shifting the COG & BOS |
