Mixtures Two or more substances that may be combined in variable amounts (ex: garden salad)
Solution Mixtures that are evenly mixed at the molecular level
Element A substance that cannot be broken down (pure)
Compound A pure substance made up of two or more chemically combined elements
Dissolve To melt or liquefy change into a solution (solvent dissolves the solute)
Acid A substance that tastes sour and turns blue litmus paper red when dissolved in water
Base A substance that feels slippery tastes bitter and turns red litmus paper blue when dissolves in water
Indicator A substance that changes color at a certain pH level
pH Scale A system for measuring the strength of different acid or bases
Litmus Paper A type of paper that it red or blue or neutral and tells if it is an acid or base
