BG Civil War Battles

Battle of Bull Run this battle was attended by many people because they thought the war would be over at the end
Battle at Harpers Ferry Confederate went into steal the ammunition and artillery from the Union. They succeeded at the battle.
Battle of Antietam Known as the bloodiest battle because so many soldiers passed away. The winner was undecided.
Fredericksburg Burnside led the Union to lose this battle. Twice as many Union soldiers died as Confederate soldiers. Burnside continued to send his men up a hill towards the Confederate army only to watch them be shot down.
Union victory when Grant pushed back Lee’s men. Lincoln gave a very important speech here. Battle at Gettysburg
This battle was difficult b/c there were no trees, only bushes and shrubs. Battle of Wilderness
Burnside led the Union to lose this battle. The Union army created a crater with dynamite in their own line of defense. Then Burnside sent his men in and out of the Crater to fight – eventually killing most of his men here too. Battle at the Crater
This battle was titled this because the inn nearby did not serve warm food – only cold food. Lee & Grant met during this battle and could not come to a truths. Battle at Cold Harbor
Part of Confederacy was captured and their luggage taken at this battle to close the end of the war. After this, Lee knew his men would not win. Battle at Saylor's Creek
Confederacy surrendered here Appomattox
Robert E. Lee was outnumbered by the Union army, but split his small group into 3 smaller groups and still won Battle of Chancelorsville
Stonewall Jackson was shot during this battle -Robert E. Lee said he lost his right hand man Battle of Chancelorsville
