Science Cell Study
Test on Cells in Science Class with Mr. Tyler
Question | Answer |
---|---|
What is the Cell Theory? | -All living things are made up of cells -Cells are the basic unit of structure and function for living things -All cells are produced from other cells |
What are Cells? | basic unit of structure and function of living things Structure- what an organism is made up of and how it is put together Function-processes that enable an organism to stay alive and reproduce |
What is Resolution? | The sharpness of the image |
What is an Electron Microscopes? | To use a beam of electrons instead of light to produce a magnified image |
What are organelles? | They're tiny cells structures that carry out specific functions |
What does the cell wall of a plant do? | A plant cell wall protects and supports the cell |
What is the cell membrane? | It controls what substances go in and out of the cells |
What is the nucleus? | It's the control center of the cell |
What are the parts of the nucleus? | Nuclear Envelope is the membrane that protects the nucleus Chromatin are the thin strands, contains genetic material, the instructions for directing the the cells functions Nucleolus are where ribosomes are made |
What is cytoplasm? | It's a clear jelly-like material |
What is the Mitochondria? | Powerhouses of the cells. It convert’s energy in food molecules to energy the cell can use. |
What is the Endoplasmic Reticulum? | It carries proteins and other materials to one part of the cell to another, a maze of passageways |
What are ribosomes? | They produce proteins. |
What are Golgi Bodies? | They receive proteins and other newly formed materials from the endoplasmic reticulum. Then package them and distribute them to other parts of the cells |
What are chloroplasts? | Found only in plant cells, some bacteria and some algae contain chloroplasts. They get energy from sunlight and use it to produce food for the cell |
What are vacuoles? | They are the storage containers of the cells. Plant cells have one big one. Animal cells have littler ones or none at all. |
What are lysosomes? | They are small, round structures containing chemicals that break down certain materials in the cells, cleanup crew of the cell |
