How are wetlands helpful to the environment? The plants, soils, and microorganisms of wetlands often act as filters, cleaning water that flows through a wetland.
Some wetlands are part of estuaries, what are estuaries? Estuaries are places where rivers flow into oceans.
Salt marshes are grassy wetlands at the edges of estuaries. What is the purpose of salt marshes? Salt marshes protect inland areas from stormy ocean waves.
