QuestionAnswer
hyperkyphosis abnormally increased convexity of thoracic spine (pain/tension in pecs, rhomboid) increase suppleness of pecs, external mobilization of shoulder
sciatica acute pain along sciatic nerve path primary=protrusion of lumbar intervertebral disc NO PERCUSSIONS IN LUMBAR AREA secondary=compression of nerve by a muscle favour foulage/elongations/petrissage
angina pectoris severe chest pain = out of breath, sweat acute=absolute c.i. remission over 6 months w dr ok=can massage NO localized frictions/percussions/petrissage/deep drain
herniated disk degeneration of annular fibers of intervertebral disk 1-initial tearing 2-nucleus protrudes 3-nucles extruded AVOID PERCUSSIONS OVER DORSAL MUSCLES, use foulage, elongations to increase suppleness lumbar/gluteal/hammstrings
Nevus birthmark, may be elevated - avoid affected region, no manoeuvers that stretch the skin (petrissage, foulage, elongations)
Hemangioma proliferation of superficial blood capillaries (pink red or purple lesion) may be elevated - avoid affected region, no manoeuvers that stretch the skin (petrissage, foulage, elongations)
arteriosclerosis arterial wall thickening and loss of elasticity =increased blood pressure + dizziness, formation of plaques NO LOCALIZED FRICTION/PERCUSSIONS/PETRISSAGE (could dislodge thrombus/plaque and obstruct blood flow) , NO DEEP DRAINS
crohn's disease inflammation of GI tract walls affecting ilieum and proximal colon =thickening of walls, abscess formation, abdominal/hip/lumbar pain AVOID ABDOMINAL REGION AND PERCUSSIONS IN LUMBAR, focus relaxation. if on anti-inflammatory drugs release depth
buffalo hump accumulation of fat and fibrous tissue at the cervico-dorsal junction =muscle tenseness, stiffness at back of neck, burning sensation, fatigue, limitted motion INCREASE SUPPLENESS, REDUCE TISSUE CONGESTION, SLIDING PRESSURE ALONG PARAVERTEBRAL ATTACHMENT
periostitis inflammation of connective tissue surrounding diaphsys of long bones =acute pain w touch and movement ACUTE: proximal LIGHT eff/vib/foul/drain NO DEPTH CHRONIC: PROX-LOC-DIST, promote range motion/vascularz'ion/waste transit
acne/furuncle(boil)/aczema/contact dermatitis/herpes simplex (cold sores)/athlete's foot/warts AVOID AFFECTED REGION
chronic bronchitis / emphysema / cystic fibrosis / asthma massage thorax, improve thoracic cage range of motion, use percussions (tapotement/clapping), effleurages, vibrations, thoracic cage mobilizations
bronchitis inflammation of bronchial mucosa acute= absolute C.I.
asthma chronic airway inflammation, smooth muscle spasms in the bronchi
emphysema destruction of pulmonary elastic fibers and alveolar walls of lungs
cystic fibrosis disease affecting mucosa and exocrine glands (= buildup of mucus in lungs)
atherosclerosis wall thickening and loss of elasticity affecting medium and large arteries =increased blood pressure + formation of plaques NO LOCALIZED FRICTION/PERCUSSIONS/PETRISSAGE (could dislodge thrombus/plaque and obstruct blood flow) , NO DEEP DRAINS
arteriosclerosis/atherosclerosis/hypercholesterolemia/hyoertension/angina pectoris/heart attack/stroke all basic same relative C.I. increased blood pressure/formation of plaques = NO LOCALIZED FRICTION/PERCUSSIONS/PETRISSAGE (could dislodge thrombus/plaque and obstruct blood flow) , NO DEEP DRAINS
hypercholestolemia abnormally elevated blood cholesterol levels
