Phenylketanuriam (PKU) An easily detected genetic disorder in which the individual cannot properly metabolize an amino acid
Sickle-cell Anemia A genetic disorder affecting the red blood cells and normally resulting in early death
Ways of testing the embryo / fetus Ultrasound, Fetal MRI, chorionic villi sampling, amniocentesis, noninvasive prenatal diagnosis

Embryonic Stage 2-8 weeks. Period from implantation to ossification

Fetal Stage 8 weeks - birth. Time of rapid cell growth, weight gain and active movement toward end
Brain development The structure of the brain develops during the first and second trimesters
Lightening Shortly before birth the fetus rotated into a head down position
Dilation and Effacement Dilation: the widening of the cervix...Effacement: the thinning of the uterine wall
Expulsion Begins when the fetus' head begins to move through the cervix and the vaginal canal
Placental Stage Placental, attaachd membranes and umbilical cord are expelled.
