Science notecards on fish.

QuestionAnswer
What is a fish? A fish is a vertebrate that lices in water and uses fins to move.
Give some characterists of fish. Gills, scales, and they are ectotherms.
How do fish obtain oxygen? Fish get oxygen from water.
Describe how fish reproduce. Most fish have external fertlizatation meaning that the eggs are fertilized outside of the female's body.
What helps fish to swim? Fins because they provide a large surface area to push against water.
What helps fish to catch food? They have keen senses of touch, smell, and taste.
What are the three groups of fish? Jawless fish, cartilaginous fish, and bony fish.
Describe some things about jawless fish? They don't have scales and some jawless fish are parasites.
What are the skeletons of cartilaginous fish made of? Cartilage.
Describe cartilaginous fish? They have jaws, skeletons made of crtilage, and scales.
Are most cartilaginous fish herbavores, carnivors, or obnivores? Carnivores.
What type of fish are sharks? Cartilaginous fish.
Are fish endotherms or ectotherms? Ectotherms.
What type of fish are most common? Bony fish.
What is the skeleton of a jawless fish made of? Cartilage.
What is a swim bladder? It is a gas-filled organ which helps stabilize the fish at different depths in th water.
