---|---|
What is DNA? | The genetic matterial found in all living cells that contains the information needed for an organism to grow, maintain itself, and reproduce. |
What is Binary Fission? | The results in two nearly equal, independent cells. |
What is Cell Division? | The process by which cells divides into two or more cells. |
What is Interphase? | The stage of a cell immediately following the completion of cell division. |
What is Mitosis? | The process in cell division in which the nucleus divides to produce two new nuclei, each having the having the same number and type of chromosomes as the original. |
What is Cell Cycle? | The series of events that takes place in a cell leading to its division and duplication. |
What is Chromosome? | A structure in all living cels that carries the genes that determine heredity. |
What is Cytokyinesis? | The cytoplasmic division of a cell at the end of mitosis. |
What is Genetic Material? | The material found in cells that contains the genetic information of living organisms. |
What is Regeneration? | Regrowth of lost or destroyed parts or organs. |
What is Budding? | When a new organism is grown off the side of another organism. |
What is Prophase? | The first phase of cell division. The chromosomes become visible as paired chromatids and the nuclear envelope disappears |
What is Metaphase? | The second stage of cell division, during which the chromosomes become attached to the spindle fibers |
What is Anaphase? | The stage of meiotic or mitotic cell division in which the chromosomes move away from one another to opposite poles of the spindle. |
What is Telophase? | The final phase of cell division in which the chromatids or chromosomes move to opposite ends of the cell and two nuclei are formed. |
What is Spindle Fibers? | The structure that separates the chromosomes into the daughter cells. |
What is Interphase? | The period between cell divisions when growth and replacement occur in preparation for the next division. |
What is Centrioles? | A minute cylindrical organelle near the nucleus in animal cells. |
What is Sexual Reproduction? | Reproduction that includes two parent cells. The offspring has traits of both of the parents. |
What is Asexual Reproduction? | Reproduction that includes only on parent cell. The offspring is identical to the parent cell. |
