When was the Korean War? 1950-1953
What was the Domino Theory? That if 1 country falls to communism that the other countries were going to fall too.
What was containment? Keeping communism to where it exists so it doesnt spread.
Who was the war between? United States vs. North Korea
What was the 38th Parallel? The 38th parallel, as the pre-war boundary between the countries, became the focal point for negotiations of a cease fire.
What were the causes of the war? North Koreas Army crossed over the 38th Parallel into South Korea.
When North Korean People crossed over into South Korea what happened? South Korean forces were pushed into the southern tip of the Korean peninsula.
What happened in September of 1950? US sends troops led by Douglas MacArthur
What happened when MacArthurs troops land at Inchon? MacArthurs troops stabalize the line.
How does China get involved in the war? China fears an invasion so they launch a counterattack.
What is reached at the 38th Parrallel? a Stalemate
Who suggests an invasion on China? And who disagreed with it? Douglas MacArthur and President Truman disagreed.
When and Why did Truman fire MacArthur? MacArthur began to publicly critize Trman and in 1951 Truman fires MacArthur.
Who was Kim Sung II? Leader of North Korea.
Who was Syngman Rhee? President of Republic of North Korea.
What does the US do to North Korea? US pushes North Koreans out of South Korea.
When does China stage another offensive? and what do they do? 1952 and they oush the allies back to the 38th parrallel.
What were 2 major battles Pork Chop Hill and Heartbreak Ridge
Who was the new President? Dwight Eisenhower
when was the cease fire? 1953
What happened after the cease of the fire? Communism was contained to North Korea and South Korea remained free.
What were the competitions with the Soviets? Arms Race, The Space Race- Launching of Sputnik
